Continuously Screening Biofilms in Real Time

A new PLoS article describes monitoring of biofilm formation of Staphylococcus and Streptococcus strains using xCELLigence continuous impedance measurements - a technology opening new opportunities in the biofilm research arena for screening of strains and evaluation of bioactives and antimicrobials.

 

For our office in Basel, Switzerland we have a vacant part-time (approx. 50%) position starting on January 15, 2018

 

Using xCELLigence continuous impedance measurements, distinct phases of P. aeruginosa biofilm formation were revealed. Antibiotic effects were characterized with a precision superior to crystal violet staining.

A new publication describes really inspiring results: The authors report how they used xCELLigence cell assays to remove an ambiguity due to contradictory previous findings regarding PKC receptors - based on the instrument's ability of continuous long-term measurements with full-kinetics read-outs.

 

ACEA’s xCELLigence Research Grant is aimed at helping scientists achieve their research goals by
providing them free access to Real-Time Cell Analysis (RTCA) technology. The winning scientist receives an xCELLigence instrument, consumables, and consultation for up to 6 months.

 

We combine xCELLigence assays with NovoCyte ?ow cytometric analyses to characterize two key immunological prophylactic mechanisms. First, we track Bispeci?c T Cell Engager (BiTE)-mediated stimulation of cancer cell killing by T cells. Next, we shift our focus to NETosis, a cell death process that occurs when stimulated neutrophils cast an extracellular web containing DNA, histones, and anti-bacterial proteins that ensnare/neutralize invading organisms.

 

CASY’s capabilities for accurate cell counting, and importantly for straightforward cell volume and aggregate measurement supports standardization of hemocompatibility experiments.

Evaluating Drug-Mediated Cytotoxicity in Real Time

 

3 new application notes describe the use of NovoCyte for HPV mRNA expression analysis, real-time Ca 2+ measurement at the single cell level and the accurate CD34+ cells enumeration in hematopoirtic transplantation.

 

How Cancer Drug Doxorubicin induces Cardiotoxicity

A recent nature paper provides new insights how the anticancer agent Doxorubicin induces cytotoxicity in human induced pluripotent stem cells-derived cardiomyocytes (iPS-CMs).

 

The destruction of Daudi B cells by T cells in the presence or absence of a Bispecific T Cell Engager (BiTE) was analyzed in real-time using the xCELLigence technology. Concurrently, because cells are not destroyed by this technique, it was possible to remove samples at select time points and confirm cell killing by flow cytometry. Moreover, by removing media from select wells of the xCELLigence microtiter plate, the secretion of 7 different cytokines and 6 different effector molecules were also analyzed using a bead-based multiplex assay combined with flow cytometry.
