Ecotoxicology Testing using CASY

Phytotoxic effects of chemical pollutants are often performed using cell growth assays with unicellular green algae. In this study, the toxicity of the antibiotic ciprofloxacin to the green algae Raphidocelis subcapitata was investigated using CASY.

 

Virus infectious titer can be determined using real-time cell analysis (RTCA) + Impedance signal decrease after virus infection of Vero cells was dose-dependent. + RTCA is a reproducible and robust high-throughput virus titration method. + RTCA can be used in viral vaccine process development.

 

The cell cycle of R. subcapitata consists of three phases: growth of the mother cell, cell division
(which includes two divisions of the nucleus), and the release of four autospores. Over a period of 24h, the cell number and size distribution of a synchronized culture was tracked, revealing phases of cell growth and phases of proliferation.

 

CASY was used for evaluation of the cytotoxicity of anti-cancer drug combinations. Novel polychemotherapy regimens were defined using CASY Chemosensitivity Assays.

Continuously Screening Biofilms in Real Time

A new PLoS article describes monitoring of biofilm formation of Staphylococcus and Streptococcus strains using xCELLigence continuous impedance measurements - a technology opening new opportunities in the biofilm research arena for screening of strains and evaluation of bioactives and antimicrobials.

 

Using xCELLigence continuous impedance measurements, distinct phases of P. aeruginosa biofilm formation were revealed. Antibiotic effects were characterized with a precision superior to crystal violet staining.
