Fibroblast-mediated Migration and Invasion Kinetics: Monitoring Co-culture Effect in Real-Time

The local tumor microenvironment contributes to the transformed phenotype in cancer by providing specific environmental cues that alter the cells behavior and promotes metastasis. Dr. Patrick Kiely and his team at University of Limerick (Ireland) used xCELLigence technology to investigate how human fibroblasts alter cancer cell behavior. Dr. Kiely, in his latest publication demonstrated that co-culturing human dermal fibroblast enhanced the proliferation of colon cancer cells. This is also the 1st study that provides real-time data on fibroblast-mediated migration and invasion kinetics of colon cancer cells.
